The testers from the renowned car
magazine “auto connect” have made their decision: the
Audi navigation system plus defeated the competition of
ten systems from original equipment manufacturers. The
results have now been published in a special issue. The
Audi navigation system plus is available in the Audi A3,
A3 Sportback, A4, A4 Avant, A4 Cabriolet and Audi
allroad quattro models.
In the four categories Equipment, Handling, Route
Guidance and Route Calculation, the Audi system
performed particularly outstandingly in the disciplines
“Visual and Acoustic Route Guidance” and “Operation”.
The Audi navigation system plus achieved the highest
possible scores for navigation system equipment and
route calculation for overland driving.
“The Ingolstadt company are the acknowledged
trendsetters in the field of in-car electronics and
multimedia – and this was the case even before the
highly acclaimed MMI infotainment and multimedia system
which Audi offers in its A6 and A8 models,” commented
the “auto connect” testers.
The operating and display system of the navigation
system plus in the Audi A3 tested follows the very same
clear and intuitively comprehensible logic as the
multiple-award-winning Audi MMI, introduced in 2002 in
the latest-generation Audi A8.
Key features of the successful system are the fast DVD
drive, two integrated memory card readers, the twin
tuner for FM reception and a 6.5-inch TFT colour display
with extended 3D map view. The split-screen function
means that supplementary information, for example on the
next three recommended turns, can be shown next to the
map on the left-hand side of the picture. In addition
the automatic multistage turning point zoom supports the
driver by giving precise, in-depth information.
The Audi navigation system plus provides up to three
routes to choose from – short, fast or alternative – and
allows up to three stopovers. Incoming traffic
announcements are automatically taken into account when
calculating the route and can also be displayed directly
on the map at the press of a button. The extensive
selection of points of interest includes airports, car
parks, exhibition and event centres, museums and
theatres as well as cinemas and shopping centres.
The convenient telephone operation and the optional
voice dialogue system with five European languages
ensure that the Audi navigation system plus represents
an outstanding offer. Within one year the installation
rate in some models has more than doubled – proof indeed
of its great appeal to customers.
