The engines in the new Audi A4: progressive, powerful, efficient. All the petrol engines are equipped with FSIŽ, a particularly economical method of direct injection. The petrol engines in the A4 are equipped with FSIŽ or TFSIŽ, technologies that have been tried and tested in motorsport. In FSIŽ engines, fuel is injected into the combustion chamber in precisely measured quantities. This provides for efficient combustion and improved petrol utilisation. TFSIŽ combines FSIŽ with a turbocharger to deliver even more power. Petrol models are available as both four- and six-cylinder versions. The range at model launch extends from 118 kW (160PS) to 195 kW (265PS).
A special valve timing system, the Audi valvelift system, reduces internal friction in the 3.2 FSI engine, thus reducing fuel consumption – but not power! As a result, the most powerful model, the A4 3.2 FSI, with its torque rating of 330 Nm, accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds.
